dry eyes
dry hands
white skies
white lands
winter weathers
falling like feathers
So familiar, nay, known
So family, called home.

The Brick Artist – Nathan Sawaya

24 November, 2010 (12:00) | LEGO© Creations

Nathan Sawaya, known as the brick artist, is my favorite LEGO artist around.  He mixes brick with modern art sculpture.  His latest project is Hugman, where he leaves a LEGO man hugging random urban objects.  Kind of a viral marketing technique, kind of a Banksy method, but still entertaining and unique in it’s own way.  His sculptures are on a gallery tour, so if they’re in your area, check him out!

Pizza is the best food in the world.  It (in most cases) consists of all the major food groups, which makes it the the healthiest food as well.  It lasts for a long period of time, even without refrigeration, which makes it the best investment food.  It is diverse and eaten in many cultures, which should make it the official food of the nobel peace prize.  Plus, it’s super cheap.  Pizza is awesome.

Pittsburgh

The Projects

19 November, 2010 (12:00) | Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Housing Authority announced their plan to demolish Addison Terrace in the Hill District. If this goes through, it will only leave the Bedford Dwellings as the last remaining barracks style housing projects in the Hill District. For those of you not familiar with the Hill but hear about shootings and crime, 99.9% of all shootings occur on Chauncey or Bentley Drive. Chauncey (Bedford Dwellings) is in the middle of the hill, along Bedford Avenue, and Bentley (Addison Terrace) runs around Elmore Square, between uptown and oakland. It’s across Kirkpatrick Street from the Oak Hill apartment community. Addison Terrace is the one that you can see from my house, so getting that area cleaned up and turned to a positive community would be great for the Hill.

Life Long Goals

And we gunna party like it’s your birthday

16 November, 2010 (00:01) | Life Long Goals

I’m 28 as of the publishing of this post.  That’s close to 30.  I’m getting older.

Every year, I can’t help but reflect on my life; what I’ve done, what I wish I would have done, what I did, what I wish I didn’t do, What I am, and what I used to be, and everything in between.  Normally, it’s very depressing.  Is it healthy?  I have no idea, but I think it’s all relative to what I do with that information afterward.

This year, I have created a list of 30 things I want to do before I turn 30.  I’ve designed the list to be achievable, and inline with what my current vision of my life would be in a natural progression to 30.  In this manner, it should serve 2 purposes:  First, as goals, that I’ll strive for, challenging myself to complete.  Second, when (if???) I finally reach 30, I’ll be able to compare what I wanted today, with what I want when I’m 30.  Have they changed at all?  Have I changed at all?  Maybe these goals that I set when I was 28 are no longer important to me when I am 30.  It’s sort of like a time capsule in that sense.

I’m going to use the category “life long goals” for updates to the list, even though it’s a departure for how I’ve been using it.  I’ll update the list with dates and links to the blog posts as they’re completed.

Here’s to life, and never accepting it as ‘done’.
