Never completely trust what a computer tells you.

The reason is, computers are made by humans.  Humans lie, they can be stupid,  and they are prone to errors.  These 3 points go viral when inputted into a computer and subsequently released onto the internet.  Some people say that computers, the internet, and Google are making us all more stupid.  I say, that people who are already stupid are just proving it more frequently, because information is so readily available to them as a result of computers, the internet, and Google.

This post was going to start off as a bit of a stupid people rant, but a few people redeemed it from frustration and dragged it into entertaining.  Possibly, the sheer ridiculousness of the entire thing brought it to the ‘funny’ category too.

My initial reaction was, “is this some sort of phishing scam?” Then I looked at the To line, and that means that either I’m somehow BCC’d on this email or that someone has my Robert Morris (rmu.edu) email on a stupid group email distribution. Sadly, it was the latter, and what ensued was ~120 reply all circle of choas and mayhem. So many Hall’s rules of Social Order were broken.  It didn’t stop until 7:01 PM.

3 people replying more than once to “stop replying all!!”

31 people replying all requesting to be removed from the email list.

2 people replying all requesting to be kept on because they liked getting all the emails

18 people simply stating they were confused, not sure why they were getting the email(s), or asking why they were getting the email(s)

4 People placing (undeserved) blame on PNC and/or Katie Fergus

8 ”IT Guys” explaining (or attempting to explain) what was going on and what needed to happen to fix it for everyone

2 Actual RMU IT guys sending the same exact message explaining what the problem was and that it would be fixed soon.

5 People replying with reference to needing more activation codes, getting Katie her activation code, or saying they don’t need any activation codes.

1 Suggestion that you should have to pass an I.Q. test to gain access to the reply all button  (I wish this had a facebook like button)

3 “Shout outs” to friends or people on the email distribution

Earlier this May, some folks gathered on Smithsonia Way on the North Shore near the Mattress Factory while the Google van drove by to record pictures for google street view.  There were samauris, a marching band, a large chicken, some firemen, and a bunch of other random things.  check out the project website, a street with a view.  here is a direct link to the google street view.

As of today, Pittsburgh is one of 14 cities to be featured in Google street view.  They missed my street, but went down a perpendicular street where you can see my truck parked on the right.   License plate security risk?  It’s a pretty neat function, being able to visualize where you want to go in a foreign city.  Really puts into perspective the depth of "Google Earth" beinga digital copy of the entire planet.  Maybe in a few years we’ll be able to create a 3D virtual world.

Went crazy trying to add some new features to keep you guys busy, and keep you coming back. so here are a few of the things that i have come up with.

• Retro Games! that keep high scores!
• the Google search feature on the lower right
• the shout box in the lower left where you can type whatever you want with out having to register
• Radio stations to listen to, if you register, you get access to a special station *wink wink*
• registered uses will be able to access my movie database too, just to see what i have.
