Do your best to avoid creating problems for yourself and your offspring.  IE: if you chose a name for them that is in any way entertaining, that’s setting them up to be taunted.  They’re name should be easy to pronounce correctly (phonetics works).  I knew someone named Parker Brothers, Chris Cross, and Secretia.  Those are not good names.

Nothing is universal. What works for you may not work for others. What’s also important here is to remember to think objectively and inversely. ie: What does not work for you, may work for others. An example of this would be the modern social networking tools out there. Just because you don’t use RSS feeds, twitter, or even facebook, doesn’t mean that other people find them extremely efficient and useful. People’s values are different.

Nothing is just black or white. This is a very broad statement to cover many topics and objects. The point is there is always an exception or a gray area. It’s always relative to who is perceiving it.

You’re considered family when you’re asked for help.  Think about it.  If you don’t feel comfortable asking someone for help, it’s probably because of a varying degree of either fearing their reaction, or not trusting them.  Neither are the traits that exist in a (healthy) family relationship.  It’s a form of flattery honestly.

Calm down.  As my cousin nate might say, “Calm the eff down.”  I’m a firm believer that nothing constructive can come out of panic and discord.  Calm down, it will be alright.
