Is it rude to cut steak all up before you eat it?

Now are we talking restaurant/someone else’s house or a casual dinner in your own home?

My initial reaction is no, it’s not rude – but yes, it’s improper.

Is there a functional reason for it to be improper, or is it just one of those things that are just the way things are? I don’t think that it getting cold faster is a very sound reason, because it’s not like meat is THAT dense/thick, or that it sits there for that long at all before you eat it.
As far as the difference between home and eating out, shouldn’t the two be the same? why should there be a double standard? If it’s not acceptable one place, then in good practice, you should be doing it everywhere.
