a question of morals: Simplicity versus honesty

26 February, 2008 (17:27) | Thoughts & Ideas

so, you go to wendy’s and order a burger and a bottle of water during their busy lunch hour.  You get everything, sit down, and notice that they didn’t charge you for the water.  Do you go back and tell them?  I know a few people who would immediately say, "without a doubt."  But the over thinker in me thinks about the complications and intricate effects of your actions.  You have to jump line and deal with it which prevents everyone else from ordering and making their lunch shorter.  Maybe that cashier is new or just having a bad day, we all have them, and you pointing out their error will be heard by their manager, and they’ll get in trouble.  I go by the motto forgive and forget.  What will be will be.  que sara sara.  How about you?

Personal Update

deadhead.

25 February, 2008 (13:57) | Personal Update

you’d think I’d have something to say…something to rant about…after a week of nothing notable being posted, surely I’d have some storehouse full of interesting thoughts or ideas…surely something would have happened in a week that I could share with you…but I’m at a loss.  I’ve been too busy with work and life to have time to sit down and think.  I’ve been defaulting to my lack of motivation home life where I veg and stare lifelessly at the television watching america’s next top model walk by.  I think if i took a vacation at this point, that’d be all I’d do anyway.  Vacations need to be timed just right for me or they’re wasted.  I just got to keep my head above the water until my head gets straight enough to see what needs to get done and then I’ll get it done.  weeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Pittsburgh

One of the largest record collections up for sale on ebay

20 February, 2008 (18:14) | Pittsburgh

Paul Mawhinney’s obsession grew into the 3 million records that now fill the Record Rama archives in Ross (North Hills).  He’s starting the bidding at 3 million dollars.  Each row of records is longer than a bowling lane.  He’s got rare elvis, rolling stone, and led zepplin records.  What sets him apart is that he’s made this his life work, filing and keeping clean sorted count of every record as well as creating a digital archive of the entire collection.  Absolutely amazing.  It’s no wonder the national archives have expressed interest.  It really would be a shame to see this leave Pittsburgh, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it went to cleveland’s rock and roll hall of fame or some other museum.  Truly impressive.

House Ideas

chutes and ladders

20 February, 2008 (17:45) | House Ideas

I want a big slide somewhere.  In the house or outside, or both.  Maybe one that goes from the top floor to the basement.  I want a spiral staircase too.  An elevator somewhere would be nice.  not a big one, even just a one person closet type, but an elevator none the less.  Secret passage ways are a must.  even if it’s just a ladder hidden in a wall to get to the floor above.  Not that I want this to be a big play house, i think those features would have practical use to them.

Ramblings

ABC Family and Disney promote high school violence

17 February, 2008 (02:43) | Ramblings

So it’s midnight, we’re flipping through the channels and we come across "Heathers".  I have never seen the whole thing, so we continue to watch it.  We start watching right when Christian Slater and Winona Ryder give cleaner to her friend to kill her.  Then we see them shoot 2 football players and make it look like a gay suicide.  The we see cops smoking marijuana in their car.  We see a few other suicides and murders, and it all ends with Christian Slater taking dynamite to the highschool and planning to kill everyone in it.  Half way through, we realize we’re watching the ABC Family channel.  WTF.  Who is the program director there?  Do they not care what they show after midnight?  Surely this can’t be good for Disney’s image.  What reason could they possibly have to air that?  Out of all the movies in the world or special tv movies, they chose heathers???  Someone is sick or disgruntled.  I smell lawsuit waiting to happen.  It wasn’t even censored much.
