Wax Poetic

Life

Cry

That is all you know

Knees to the floor

And away you go

Wide eyed

Reach out to touch

Giggle a little bit

You’re impressed by so much

Scared

Who are these others?

Why are we all here

Instead of home with our mothers

Accepting

Fragile, but developing a core

Understanding, not understood

Get ready, there’s so much more

Status

They’re everything I want to be

They’re so pretty

Why doesn’t everyone like me

Maturity

I love you

Where do I want to go from here?

What the future holds, you haven’t a clue.

Independence

You’re in control of your life

Time to make your own decisions

Take the good with the strife

Establish

A job, a home

Maybe someone else is there

Or maybe you are still alone

Climb

To the top

Become successful, become a success

And once you do, never stop

Give

Time to your husband or wife

Life to your child, pets, and each other

Love to live your life.

Slow

You’ve had your chance

The chance to build the shiny hard word floor

Where you can slow dance

Breath deep

Take in all in and look back

Smile at what you’ve done, at what you’ve been

Forget what you lack

Exhale

Let your lips come together, and eyes close

What images dance on the back of your eyelids?

Feel no pain, as life says “good bye”, and goes.

Never blindly trust the Best Buy guy.

I’m sorry BestBuy employees who are reading this.  I have personally encountered some of the worst educated “computer guys” at BestBuy, and I’ve heard personal accounts from the likes of my mother and many other friends that are horrific.  I mean, misinformation, poor recommendations, and being just downright wrong.

No one ever goes to their high school career counselor and says, “I want to grow up to be a BestBuy salesman.”  Probably not even, “I want to work at BestBuy.”  Think about that before you start taking their OPINIONS or anything they have to say as having any value or even validity.

Little Things

leaving coupons for people

Kallie told me that she went to the store the other day and someone had left coupons next to a bunch of products through the store.  It wasn’t just the store discounts, but someone must have had a bunch of coupons they were not going to use and took the effort to leave them by all the associated products.  Fun!  I’m sure a bunch of people had smiles on their faces.

Poll the People

Don’t you judge of my composure, ’cause I’m lyin to myself

It’s my birthday.  I’m 29.  One more year to work on my 30×5 list.  I’m curious though, perhaps drawn by being egocentric or even a low-self esteem, how am I doing in life?  Here’s a chance to give me an anonymous pulse check about who I am and maybe even ways to improve.  I certainly don’t want mistreat anyone, but maybe I have.

What is your opinion of Josh?

Memories

And I’ll react when faces find you

My friend Ashley used to be super politically active.  Maybe she still is, not sure.  Prior to the 2008 election though, she was working as a volunteer for Barak Obama’s campaign.  He had a stop planned for somewhere in Ohio, perhaps Youngstown, and she wanted to go, but didn’t have a car.  I had my truck, and I was up for an adventure.  I never claim to be involved in politics, but I was certainly intrigued by Obama, and I had been doing a little bit of homework.

So we filed into a packed college gymnasium to hear his speech.  I couldn’t tell you what he said now, but I remember appreciating his charismatic ways.  After the speech, Ashley wanted to get close enough to shake his hand or talk with him.  I wasn’t all about that, but I stood with her.  As he’s making his way down the line of people, shaking hands, taking pictures, signing autographs, he ends up taking a book from a girl and signing the cover.  I watched this happen and then the girl kind of lost position as Obama’s posse kept moving him along.  He looked for the girl, but couldn’t find a way to give her the book back.

I caught his eye.  I definitely stood out in the crowd due to my stature.  I gestured for him to pass me the book with a lower lip curl, a head tilt, and a flip of my hand.  His eye brows raised and he motioned the book in the girl’s direction, confirming my intent and our understanding.  He handed me the book as I reached above the head of the guy in front of me.  For that split second, we carried the weight of that book together.  I took the burden of the book from him, and then gave it to a very excited college girl.  She immediately thanked me and flipped open the cover to see what he had penned.

I thought I was just going to give Ashley a ride, but I ended up helping the president complete his duties.  Go me.
