The humans are dead

7 June, 2012 (12:00) | Geeked Out

I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention, but these flying robots are getting scary.  They’re able to do a lot more than what they used to do when I was a kid.  They know where other robots are.  They know how to pass balls.  They’re small and they’re growing in numbers.  Basically, it’s only a matter of time before they’re flying in our houses and stealing our children.  Just sayin’

Monkey in the middle just got a lot meaner for some poor playground kids.  And they’re playing music now too?  This is out of control.

Hall’s Rule of Social Order – #129

Hospitals are businesses.

They’re not just there to make you feel better.  They are run like businesses.  They worry about low overhead and getting customers in and out as quickly as possible.  Are you aware that 1 in 3 births that occur in a hospital result in a Cesarian section?  That’s a 50% increase since 1996.  Are we to assume woman are just getting riskier at normal deliveries?  Seeing that other countries, even 3rd world countries are half that rate, I don’t think that holds water.

Color me a conspiracy theorist, but C sections are just good business for hospitals.  The procedure is quicker, they keep you longer in recovery, they have more control over the outcomes, and they obviously get to charge you more for doing “more”.  It’s not just c sections though, there’s the whole racket with insurance companies where they can charge $129 for a “mucous recovery system” AKA: a box of Kleenex.

biolite stoves are going to revolutionize the mobile and underdeveloped world

31 May, 2012 (12:00) | Geeked Out

The Biolite stoves are game changers.

There are 2 different stoves being made right now.  One is a stove that is used for camping and one is being used as a solution for cooking in poor countries.  Both of these products are amazing.

They’re clean, safe, and cheap.  They produce electricity to charge or power small devices like phones and flashlights.  I’d love to see them get popular enough to get to underdeveloped places so they can boil water and cook meat to provide cleaner meals as well as safer and cleaner environments.

Corporations are not people.

Corporations are run by people.  They are not individuals and should not be entitled to any rights, privileges, or opportunities that would supersede or even equal the rights of actual people.

interactive pool table

25 May, 2012 (12:00) | House Ideas

I don’t want a house full of gadgets, but I do want some cool conversation pieces that set it apart from other houses.

I definitely want a pool table.  this would be great – http://www.obscuradigital.com/products/detail/cuelight/  It’s a computer based effect that tracks pool ball movement across the table.  You’ve probably seen this technology before.  I remember going to the Penguins games at the Civic Arena and they had a projection of a hockey rink with a puck on it.  If you made a kicking motion towards it, it would move.  It was pretty much a virtual air hockey table.  I’m sure the novelty would wear off, but it’d be a cool atmosphere to play under.

Big Wooly Mammoth gonna wear that coat

23 May, 2012 (12:00) | News

Well, the nice thing about global warming is that they found a wooly mammoth pretty much intact in Russia somewhere.  Some scientists say they’ll have a cloned version in 5-10 years…scary, huh?
