Pittsburgh

One of the largest record collections up for sale on ebay

20 February, 2008 (18:14) | Pittsburgh

Paul Mawhinney’s obsession grew into the 3 million records that now fill the Record Rama archives in Ross (North Hills).  He’s starting the bidding at 3 million dollars.  Each row of records is longer than a bowling lane.  He’s got rare elvis, rolling stone, and led zepplin records.  What sets him apart is that he’s made this his life work, filing and keeping clean sorted count of every record as well as creating a digital archive of the entire collection.  Absolutely amazing.  It’s no wonder the national archives have expressed interest.  It really would be a shame to see this leave Pittsburgh, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it went to cleveland’s rock and roll hall of fame or some other museum.  Truly impressive.

House Ideas

chutes and ladders

20 February, 2008 (17:45) | House Ideas

I want a big slide somewhere.  In the house or outside, or both.  Maybe one that goes from the top floor to the basement.  I want a spiral staircase too.  An elevator somewhere would be nice.  not a big one, even just a one person closet type, but an elevator none the less.  Secret passage ways are a must.  even if it’s just a ladder hidden in a wall to get to the floor above.  Not that I want this to be a big play house, i think those features would have practical use to them.

ABC Family and Disney promote high school violence

17 February, 2008 (02:43) | Ramblings

So it’s midnight, we’re flipping through the channels and we come across "Heathers".  I have never seen the whole thing, so we continue to watch it.  We start watching right when Christian Slater and Winona Ryder give cleaner to her friend to kill her.  Then we see them shoot 2 football players and make it look like a gay suicide.  The we see cops smoking marijuana in their car.  We see a few other suicides and murders, and it all ends with Christian Slater taking dynamite to the highschool and planning to kill everyone in it.  Half way through, we realize we’re watching the ABC Family channel.  WTF.  Who is the program director there?  Do they not care what they show after midnight?  Surely this can’t be good for Disney’s image.  What reason could they possibly have to air that?  Out of all the movies in the world or special tv movies, they chose heathers???  Someone is sick or disgruntled.  I smell lawsuit waiting to happen.  It wasn’t even censored much.

My first kiss

14 February, 2008 (15:22) | Memories

Here’s on for valentine’s day.  1st grade, I had a major crush on Dana Morich.  Our class probably had a dozen or so kids in it, and I always felt like Dana and I were the smart 2, that we had some sort of connection there.  We were outside for recess, and no one was around, I told her to "look over there" and pointed to the side, and as she turned her head, I kissed her cheek.  I totally forget now is she slapped me or what….heh, I just know we got teased for a while about that.  That was the first time I wanted to kiss a girl.  There was this girl in kindergarten named Sarah that I had a crush on though.  She liked my cousin micah though.  When we had recess, the girls would chase us around the gym, I think they’d try to kiss us…but mostly just micah.  I think I might have been going through my fat salami stage in life…I dunno.  I always had to pull the girls off him and his face would be all red from: 1) embarrassment, 2) not being able to breathe, 3) the girls kissing his cheeks.  Fun times.  I wonder where they all are now….

Personal Update

well, that’s less than desirable.

13 February, 2008 (11:09) | Personal Update

I called off sick yesterday.  Ended up spending a lot of the time on the phone with family drama.  I’ll end there.

Deirdre’s in tulsa, OK visiting a friend while she has a few days off between her play, Alice sit by the Fire.  So i’ve been home alone with the 3 legged cat.  I’m totally bummed out.

I woke up at 7 today to make it in to work by 8, an hour earlier than i usually do.  I waited at the bus stop for 45 minutes with no bus ever coming, so I walked to work in the snow.  I was 4 minutes late.

A guy from the northpark clubhouse had emailed me back in January after he heard my music online and he wanted talk to about me playing a show for an event they wanted to have.  I talked to him twice over the phone, the second time he confirmed that we had the gig, but he just needed to confirm the date.  I told him I’d stop over on a Thursday to check out the sound equipment and such.  Jordan and I showed up, but they told me that he had to go to the hospital earlier that day because he was sick.  He hasn’t returned voicemails or emails for 3 weeks now.  I don’t know if he’s dead or what.

The project that i’m working on is turning into a department within a few months.  I do not have a position in the new department because I’m considered a borrowed resource.  I have no desire to go back to the helpdesk, but I also don’t have leads for a different position down here yet.
