I don’t like the drugs but the drugs like me

21 December, 2010 (12:00) | Pittsburgh

The hill district has the first-in-the-nation off-campus university-run community pharmacy!  If you remember back with all the grocery store talks, Kuhn’s was supposed to build a full service store with a pharmacy in it, but now that they backed up, Duquesnse University stepped up and built one.  I’m excited to see the relationship with the community and school develop and also see if any other colleges around town introduce their own community plans!

Hall’s Rule of Social Order #45

In the case where you and someone else in your group wear the same, or very similar shirts or outfits, every effort possible should be made to either minimize (or remove completely) the similarities. Extremely rare similarities in shirts/outfits (lime green striped polos, for example) warrant extreme urgency and importance.

Do you realize how important brand names are?  Until I see how often I call items by only 1 of the specific products names, as if it were the general term.  I had created a list with friends on what they should actually be called, but some we were stumped because we were just so used to using the proper name.

sometimes, it’s just the first product to market and then others have the uphill battle of getting the market, but sometimes it’s just as simple as having a catchy name.

Here’s a list, leave a comment and I’ll add them to the list.

  1. zamboni
  2. jell-o
  3. oreo cookies
  4. walkman
  5. chapstick
  6. windex
  7. band-aid
  8. kleenex
  9. Powerpoint
  10. Saran wrap
  11. ziplock
  12. Swiffer
  13. Playdoh
  14. Xerox
  15. Drugs (tylenol, aspirin, etc)

And don’t forget to give me back my black T-shirt

I forget why it happened, but we were at Chris Olivieri’s place one night for a party and Kallie ended up needing to borrow a shirt, so Chris gave her an old Pirates tshirt.  Now, she’ll wear it sometimes.  To bed, or in the morning on the weekends.  All I can think about is that my wife is wearing another man’s tshirt.  I find this wrong (but keep a sense a humor).  Thoughts?

Is it weird for your wife to wear your friend's tshirt in the morning?

Down in the park with a friend called five

14 December, 2010 (12:00) | Pittsburgh

Carnegie Mellon architecture students put together a huge study an redesign of Pittsburgh’s urban landscaping and planning. One idea included a ski lift like cable car that would go from the top of the civic arena area down to the David Lawrence Convention center (page 103 of the report).  Some other ideas included a water taxi system, dedicated bike lanes, and reusing the civic arena space as a park with a lake and ice skating rink in the winter.

You can order the 178 page book through lulu.com, or just view the pdf for free. You can read a brief article on the study through the post-gazette.
